What are the Panda Awards?
The Panda Awards were started by several international schools in Beijing. The books nominated for the awards promise to take readers on an exciting reading adventure. Students and educators will explore excellent books and share their views on wikis. The program connects schools, creating a learning environment beyond classroom walls, while uniting students and educators from international schools across China.
Each year a selection of books is short listed in four categories: Mature Readers [High School], Older Readers [Middle School], Middle Readers [Upper Elementary], Younger Readers [Lower Elementary - Picture Books]. Students and educators read books from the selected lists in their appropriate category. Participants can collaborate with their peers online. By January they'll vote for their favorite book within their category.
When does the program start?
Students are encouraged to start reading the nominated Panda titles in the Autumn of 2011. They will vote for their favorite books between January 30 - February 3, 2012.
How were the books selected?
The books on the lists were carefully chosen by librarians and teacher-librarians from international schools in order to represent an international selection. There are separate lists for each category: lower elementary, upper elementary, middle school, and high school.
How does the voting take place?
Participants will receive instructions in advance on when and where to vote.
